In 1996, The Rev. Dr. Harrison E. Benton founded the Word of Life A.M.E. Church. His wife and ministry partner was First Lady Beverly J. Benton. The goal was to focus on the people of the community. On Sunday, October 13, 1996, the Church held its inaugural service at the Harmony Hall Regional Center in Fort Washington, MD. At the Washington Annual Conference in April of 2004, the church instituted a name change to New Creation A.M.E. Church. The Rev. Dr. Benton retired in January 2014 after faithfully serving for eighteen years.
The Rev. Dr. Anthony R. Young was appointed as New Creation's 2nd pastor in 2014. Rev. Dr. Young’s wife and ministry partner was First Lady Lisa Young. Their daughter, Jordyn, also served with them, and was a gifted dancer and palmist. First Lady Lisa Young stood as a pillar of strength and devotion within New Creation A.M.E. Church. She was a committed stewardess, prayer warrior, and leader, but she was also deeply involved in the church’s missionary work.
During the course of Rev. Dr. Young's leadership, he recognized the need to introduce technology into church operations. He was at the forefront of introducing electronic giving and live streaming in the Second District of the Washington Conference.
In March of 2020, in person worship was paused due to the Covid Pandemic. However, New Creation's transition was seamless. Notably, 98% of donations were received electronically due to the technology put in place under Rev. Dr. Young’s leadership. New Creation's contributions increased substantially during the Covid Pandemic due to technology systems initiated by Rev. Dr. Young.
During the Covid Pandemic, Rev. Dr. Young initiated an overseas covenant mission program with Mt. Hermon A.M.E. Church in Rwanda, Africa. The program assisted in feeding over 100 families each month and contributed to constructing a physical church in Rwanda. During this period, a prayer ministry was also established to align with the church's theme of "Birthing, Building, and Blessing the people of God." The Rev. Dr. Young served the people of New Creation faithfully until 2025. He is currently pastoring Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church in Annapolis, MD.
Rev. Dr. Willie B. Johnson was appointed as the third pastor of New Creation A.M.E. Church at the 2025 Mid-Year Conference by Bishop Reginald T. Jackson. Rev. Dr. Johnson’s wife and ministry partner is Tina Johnson. They look forward to serving the people of New Creation and the surrounding communities through teaching God’s word, evangelizing, and serving the community through their organized ministry components.
